Wilbert Dent Jr, affectionally known by many as “WDJ” departed his earthly life Monday, February 10, 2025, at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton NC.
He was born on September 10, 1935, to the late Bee Wilbert Dent and Flore Stukes Dent. He grew up in Faison, NC and obtained his education in the Duplin County School system. In his early years he worked as a veterinary assistant in Faison and at Rose Hill Poultry in Rose Hill, NC. He was married to the late Minnie Lee Darden Dent and to that union they were blessed with four children.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328. The family will receive friends following the service, within the chapel.
A Walk Through Visitation will be held 2:00-5:00 pm on Friday, February 14, 2025 within the Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel.
He is proceeded in death by his sister Minnie Stevens, son William Earl Dent and nephew Harry Dent Jr.
Wilbert was a devoted husband, brother, father and friend. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking coffee breaks and eating McDonald’s fish fillet and sweet tea. Wilbert had a personality that was contagious, and he loved laughing and telling jokes. One of his favorite sayings was “loan me $1000.” You would often hear him singing, “If you live right, heaven belongs to you.” He was a member of First Baptist Church, Turkey, NC under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Alexander and Pastor Bob Rogers.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters Carolyn Whitted/Eddie Whitted, (son in law) of Wendell, NC, Alisa Craddock/Wayne Craddock (son in law) of Clinton NC, one son, Donald Ray Darden of Clinton, NC, one brother- in -law, Willie James Darden of Clinton, NC, sister Betty Dent Mimms of Faison, Nc, brothers Harry Dent, Faison, NC, Thomas Dent, New York, four granddaughters, Tenisha Dent Leach, of Garner, NC, Jasmine Dent of Roseboro, NC, Ambria Underwood of Raleigh, NC, Regina Tann, of Warsaw, NC, one grandson, Donald Tann of Warsaw, NC. Special Neices/Nephews, Sandra Mimms, Curtis Mimms Jr, Deborah Malloy, Sharon Dent, Linda Dent Faison, Teresa Dent, Debbie Dent, Denise Dent, and Angel Dent and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Wilbert was loved and cherished by many and will truly be missed.
