Walter C. Herring

 In accordance with our Heavenly Father’s plan, Walter Carol Herring, was called home Monday, March 18, 2024, at his home, 1301-A Jasper St., Clinton, NC. When he heard the voice of his Father, he answered, took his hand, and left it all.

Walter was born June 20, 1949 to the late Willie James and Beulah Mae Herring. At an early age Walter joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He received his education from the Sampson County School System. After finishing school Walter went to Huntington, NY to live, where he worked as a security guard, custodian, and landscaper. In his leisure time Walter often enjoying fishing with his brothers.

Home Going Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 4442 Bonnetsville Rd., Clinton, NC. Bishop Eddie Parker, Eulogist and Minister Tajuan Sutton, Presider . Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will take place 1:00-6:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC. The family will also be receiving friends other times at the home of his sister, Evelyn Poteat, 1059 Issac Rd., Clinton, NC.

In addition to his parents, Walter is preceded in death by one brother, James Pate Herring; one stepson; Thomas Jones; and a special friend, Debra ‘Cookie’ Jones.

Left to cherish Walter’s memories are: one son, Brian Herring of Huntington, NY; four grandchildren: Jeremiah Curtis, Jemiah Curtis, Nehemiah Curtis, and Naomi Curtis all of Huntington, NY; two stepchildren: Antoinette Jones and Anthony Jones, both of Huntington, NY; and six step-grandchildren: Ashley Jones, Anthony Jones Jr., Sydney Jones, Nasally Jones, Kyle Juin and Kayla Juin, all of Huntington, NY; four siblings: Evelyn Poteat (Joe) of Clinton, NC, Lelia Sutton (Walter, deceased) of Clinton, NC, Lynda Newkirk (Lee) of Hope Mills, NC and Willie Herring of Clinton, NC; one sister-in-law, Mattie G. Herring of Huntington, NY; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
