Wade Gleason Maynor “Buck” was born in Rose Hill, NC, on February 2, 1956, to the late Nicholas Emmanuel Maynor and the late Rhufinia McNeill Maynor. He transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear Life Center in Wilmington, NC.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Hayes Chapel Baptist Church, 2580 Hayes Chapel Rd., Rose Hill, NC 28458. Burial will follow in Allen Community Cemetery, 2219 Herring Rd., Rose Hill, NC 28458.

A Walk Thru will be 1:00-5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328. 

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Owen Thomas McNeill and Berrie Emmanuel Maynor; stepson, Gary Lee West, Jr., and two grandsons, Jadariel Best and Nicholas Emmanuel Maddox.

At an early age, Wade joined Allen Chapel AME Church and at a later age, he joined Ward Chapel Missionary Baptist Church both in Rose Hill, NC.

Wade received his education in the Sampson County Public School System. After high school, Wade joined the US Army and served faithfully for over 19 years. After retiring, he began a career as a truck driver with Solid Rock Carriers in La Grange, NC, and continued driving until his health declined.

Wade is survived by his wife, Maretha Maynor of the home, six grandchildren of the home, Tionna, Jayshawn, Ataliyia, Maliq, Devin Butler and Jasmine; 19 other grandchildren; four daughters, Erica Chisholm, Raven Floyd, Samantha Applewhite (Marcus), and Angel Smith (Robert); two sons, Robert Lee Covington III and Ranel Kennedy Maynor; two sisters, Ruthel Imes (Willie Earl) and Annie M. West; three brothers, Albert Bass Maynor (Olivia), Nicholas Ruben Maynor (Darlene) and Adam Jerome Maynor (Pamela); brother-in-law, Pearly Boney (Patricia); three sisters-in-law, Betty Tatum (Bernard), Theretha McNeill and Laverne Maynor; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Wade was a people person and never met a stranger. He will always be remembered as a loving, kind-hearted man with a big heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Though his passing has left a lonely place in our hearts, we are consoled by the countless memories of our loved one. He will forever be in our hearts. We submit this brief account of his life as our final gesture of love. We humbly submit to God’s will.
