Reginald Vann Obituary

Reginald Perry Vann was born on June 25,1964 to the late Lena Bright Vann and the late Clarence Mathis. He entered eternal rest on Sunday March 16,2025 in Faison, NC. He was affectionately known as “Papoose” or “Pap” to his family and friends and “Reggie” to others.

He received his education from the Sampson County school system and graduated from Hobbton High School in 1983. At a young age he joined Hill’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Faison, N.C. where he developed a profound faith in Jesus Christ.

Pap loved to sing gospel and old school R & B. He would often jokingly say “you know I sing Baritone with a mixture of Tenor.” You could not tell him he couldn’t sing and when the right song came on he would prove to you that he could.

Pap was a genuinely humble and free-spirited soul with a deep love for people. With his upbeat personality he could make you laugh regardless of any circumstances. His smile and warmth would brighten any room he entered. He had a positive outlook in any situation and always had an encouraging word. He brought joy and laughter to so many people with his comical humor.

He had an incredible work ethic despite his disability. He was employed with the House of Autry for over 34 years as a production operator. He loved his job taking great pride in the products and services they offered to consumers. He would let you know and proudly say “Not only are we nationwide, but we are worldwide!” He encountered and made lasting friendships throughout his 34 years while employed at the House of Autry.

Pap is preceded in death by his mother: Lena Bright Vann; father: Clarence L. Mathis; brother: Ronnie Vann; and special uncle: David Bright Jr.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Kemba Center, located at 124 Water Tank Rd, Warsaw, NC 28398. Burial will follow in the Cobb Cemetery, Faison, NC.

Walk thru 2:00-5 pm on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328.

Pap enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved horses and dogs. He thoroughly enjoyed riding horses with his family and friends. He enjoyed driving others around and eating out. He would always pull extra horses to the trail ride just in case someone wanted to ride and didn’t have a horse to ride. He joined the Bad Boys Saddle Club in Clinton N.C. and later became a member of Brighttown Riders Saddle Club Faison, NC once it was established. Even though Pap didn’t have any biological children he spent much time with his nieces, nephews, and God children. He was encouraging and proud of all of their accomplishments.

Pap leaves to cherish his memories to six brothers Walter K. Vann (Delia), Connell Vann, David Vann of Faison, NC, Tyrone Vann (Mable) of Chadbourn, NC, Shawn Vann (Tammy) of Warsaw, NC, and Jimmy Vann (Barbara) of Lexington, NC. Two sisters Brenda Darden (Donnie) of Bowden, NC and Angela Faison (Gonzales) of Kenansville, NC. Three special cousins Henry Morrisey, Carrie Hines, and Judy Jones. Two uncles David Bright Jr. and John White. Two aunts Annie Thompson and Jackie Allen. Special nephew Marcus Craddock and special friend Desiree Brannon. Five Godchildren Kelise Armwood, Cemayah Armwood, Chassidy Armwood, Sheneera Wright, Sean Wright all of Charlotte, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Pap was loved and cherished by many and will truly be missed. His memories will forever live on.
