Paulette Caylor-Thomas Obituary

Cadiz, KY

Paulette Caylor Thomas, 77 years of age, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Andrea, in Roseboro, NC. Paulette closed her eyes for the final time here on earth while Andrea sat by her side and sang “The Old Rugged Cross” to her. Paulette, a member of the Baptist faith, held membership at a number of churches over the years. Although she didn’t attend just one single church, Paulette faithfully attended services her whole life. She knew Christ as her Lord and Savior, and Heaven is certainly now her home.

The family would like to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to attend the Memorial Service for Paulette, which will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at The Meeting Place Full Gospel Church, located at 83 Heritage Trce, Cadiz, KY 42211. Prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 AM. the family will receive guests.

Paulette made her grand entrance to this world on August 19, 1946, in Newport News, VA. She was the daughter of the late Mary C. Davis and Henry Willard Turner. She graduated Class of 1965, from Miami Norland High School in Florida. After high school she met and married her first husband, Gerard A. Gentile, and their union welcomed daughter, Andrea.

On September 27, 1974, Paulette married her second husband, Ronald C. Caylor. Together the two of them co-managed Vacation Club in Lake Barkley, Kentucky along with other founding families. For over 30 years, Paulette worked as Office Manager and assisted her husband in welcoming guests. They both formed lifelong friendships with many of the timeshare owners, who still miss and talk about Paulette’s presence there to this very day. Paulette was also a representative for Avon within the small town and became well known for hand delivering majority of her orders to her clients. Selling Avon brought her an immense amount of joy. She earned numerous awards over the years and continued to sell Avon up until her health would no longer allow her to keep up with it.

Paulette lost her beloved husband, Ronald, on December 13, 2009. It was ten years later when Paulette was unexpectedly blessed to meet and marry her third husband, Jesse Ray Thomas. Jesse even called up Paulette’s daughter, Andrea to ask permission to marry her. A true gentleman. Paulette loved nothing more than sitting on her deck with her husband, watching the barges travel down the river, and watching the birds. Sadly, Paulette and Jesse only had a few short but beautiful years together before his sudden passing on September 29, 2023. Paulette took his passing incredibly hard, and her health began to decline quickly after. She was no longer able to work the job she loved so much and was forced to retire.

In the final 25 days of Paulette’s life, she was able to share precious time with her daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren. It brought her so much joy to watch her granddaughters in their roles as mothers and to spend time with the babies and shower them with love and kisses. She was surrounded with family and left this world knowing she was loved beyond measure.

Paulette will be remembered for her contagious laugh, her kindness, sweet disposition, and caring personality. She will be remembered for her love of baking. Paulette made incredible biscuits with honey and her grandchildren have fond memories of breakfast at Grammy Caylor’s house because of the amazing food she cooked. Paulette’s collection of books put libraries to shame. She loved to read and had books on nearly every topic imaginable. A truly amazing sight to behold. She loved her cats and often stated that caring for them kept her from feeling lonely after the passing of her spouse.

Paulette was preceded in death by her parents: Henry Willard Turner and Mary C. Davis; sister: Mary C. Bielecki; brother: George W. Turner; and the two loves of her life, her husbands: Ronald C. Caylor and Jesse Ray Thomas.
