With profound sorrow and steadfast faith, we celebrate the life of Margaret Ann Tucker, who peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House of UNC Health Johnston.
A Home Going service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. Thomas AME Zion Church located at 5673 Hwy 53 West White Oak, NC, burial will follow in the Rock Fish Memorial Park located at 4017 Gillespie St. in Fayetteville, NC.
Born on December 29, 1942, in Sampson County, North Carolina, Margaret was the cherished child of the late Cleve James Culbreth and Mary Florence Tucker. From an early age, Margaret
displayed a nurturing spirit and a strong commitment to service, qualities that would shape the course of her life. She received her early education through the Sampson County School System and later pursued her passion for healthcare, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification in Paramus, New Jersey. With dedication and compassion, she served her community with excellence as a nurse before gracefully retiring from the medical field. Margaret’s journey didn’t stop there. Driven by a heart for advocacy and fairness, she went on to become a respected union representative for the New York Hotel Trades Council at the Ramada Inn Hotel in New York, where she uplifted the voices of many and fought for the rights of her colleagues with integrity and wisdom.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, 11:00 am-12:00 pm within the St. Thomas AME Zion Chapel.
Margaret was formerly married to Clarence Owens, and to this union two daughters were born: Debbie Owens (now resting in eternal peace) and Priscilla Owens Bennett, who carries forward her mother’s legacy with grace and strength. Later in life, Margaret chose to grow her family through adoption, welcoming Jalisa Tucker and Christina Tucker into her life with open arms and a loving heart. She embraced them fully as her daughters, providing guidance, support, and unconditional love. Margaret was preceded in death by all of her siblings: her brothers Dan Edwards, Jr., (Gloria) William Edwards, and Lawrence Edwards. Though they have gone on before her, their memories remain deeply etched in the hearts of those who knew them.
Margaret’s love for her family reached across five generations. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Rev. Dr. Priscilla Bennett, Jalisa Tucker & Christina Tucker, granddaughters, Simona Bennett & Kai’lanii Holliday, grandson’s, Kymberlai & Kaiden Lucus, great grandchildren, Jadaiya Mack, Elijah Peart, and her joyful great-great-grandson, Greyson Smith, with whom she shared the special bond of having the same birthday. Each of them carries a part of her strength, laughter, and the love she so generously gave.
Margaret was known for her quick wit and love of telling jokes, always bringing laughter and light to those around her. She had a special fondness for country music, often enjoying her favorite tunes with a smile and dancing with her sister in love with Deeny Boo (Geri). One of her favorite pastimes was playing Phase 10 with her “Phase 10 partner” and dear friend, Delores Miller, a tradition that brought her both joy, companionship, and lasting memories. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom were touched by her kindness & wisdom. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that Margaret has found eternal peace in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
