James “Jay” Almond Lewis Jr., 37 of Eastover, NC passed Friday, September 24, 2021, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. He is the son of James Caldwell and baby boy of Mary Lewis. He attended Cumberland County Schools, which he played varsity football and was a 2003 graduate of Cape Fear High School.
James loved to travel, so he attended Sampson Community College truck driving school under the director Fred Stamey and began his truck driving career. He worked for JLE Transport for the last seven years. During his down time, he started learning how to play his guitar. James was known as a “gentle giant” and was loved by everyone that got to know him.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 9th at Shiloh United Church of Christ, 4150 Hummingbird Pl, Fayetteville, NC with Pastor Michael P. Carter officiating. A viewing will be held Friday, October 8th from 2-6pm, family viewing from 6-7pm at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Service and Cremation, 1246 Hobbton Hwy, Clinton, NC 28328.
James is survived by his wife Beverly, son Brian Lewis, stepdaughter Nicole “Nikki” (Joshua) Douglas, grandbabies Phoenix and Nyla, father- James Caldwell, mother- Mary Lewis, siblings: Gene “Tony” Lewis, Anitra (Kevin) Carter, Geronimo “Moe” (Jennelle) Lewis, James E. Lewis, and J. Michelle (Darrell) Moore. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, one great nephew – Gabriel, cousins, and friends.
