Harold Thomas Kirby 77, made his transition into eternity on October 13, 2024 at UNC Health Wayne Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina, after a brief sickness.
Harold Thomas Kirby, Sr., affectionately called Poo-Poo by family and friends, was born May 4, 1947 to James Edward Kirby, Sr. and Bertha Elaine Jacobs, who both preceded him in death. Delighted by the new addition to the Kirby family was his older sister, Sandra Lee (San) and two older brothers, James Edward Jr. (Jimmy) and William Grady (Billy). Harold was the fourth child born into the family and would go on to become the older brother to Charles Leon (Bay-Bay), Jane Storey (Janie), Percy Michael (Mickey), and Richard Antonie (Rickey).
Harold was proceded in death by his parents: James Edward Kirby and Bertha Elaine Jacobs; and his siblings: Sandra, James, William, Charles, and Jane.
Memorial service to be held 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328.
Harold was educated in the Sampson County School system in Clinton, North Carolina. In 1960, the Kirby family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where Harold became a member of the working world. Harold had many jobs including Gimbels, The Budd Company, and Merchant Marines. His last job was at Trenton State Hospital where he retired after 25 years of service.
Harold married Sheila Robinson in 1964 and to their union two children were born, Harold Thomas Kirby, Jr. and Sabrena Elaine Kirby.
Harold was a member of the the Faternal Order of Masons for 40 years. He loved to travel up and down I-95 to visit family and friends. Harold enjoyed watching tennis, golf, and ‘cowboy’ movies. His favorite NFL team was the Philadelphia Eagles. In his spare time he loved to eat good food and just relax with his loved ones.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his two children: Harold Jr. and Sabrena; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Percy & Richard; as well as a host of other close relatives and friends.
