Douglas Eugene Herring, 65, of 813 Johnson Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Valley Hospice Center in Fayetteville NC on Friday, December 5, 2025                  Douglas was born on October 11, 1960, in Sampson County NC, to the late Franklin "Shy" and Lillie Mae Herring. He was the youngest of three children Douglas received his education in the Clinton City Schools and graduated from Clinton High School in 1979.  He became a member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church at a young age under the leadership of Reverend Jones.

In 1977, Douglas met his high school sweetheart, Janet Lamb, at Clinton High School. He enlisted in the military in October 1979, and he and Janet were married shortly thereafter on January 2, 1980. Two daughters, Laqueena and Lavanda, were born of this loving union. After his service in the military, Douglas returned to Clinton NC, where he worked at Lundy's Packing Company for over eleven years. He then began a long and successful career in truck driving, which he continued until his health began to decline. Doug was a devoted family man. He cherished his time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa." He loved fishing, trips to the beach, and listening to music. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Lillie Mae Herring, his sister, Diane Herring and nephew, Robert E. Herring.

Home Going Service will held 1:00 pm Saturday December 13, 2025 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel 1246 Hobbton Hwy Clinton, NC. Rev. Sandra Price, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 4442 Bonnetsville Road in Clinton, with Military Honors.

Visitation will be 2:00-6:00 pm, with family present 5:00-6:00 pm, on Friday, December 12, 2025 in the Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC. The family will also receive guests at 1391 Mt. Moriah Church Rd., beginning on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Douglas leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 46 years, Janet Herring, of the home; two devoted daughters, Laqueena Herring (Woodbridge, VA) and Lavanda Herring (Springfield, VA); and seven loving grandchildren: Silys, Taysia, Lily, Jaiden, Jermyah, Janiah, and DJ. Sister, Melvia Bennett (Rayford) of Clinton, NC; his niece, Nicole Herring (Alexandria, VA); and his nephews, James Herring, Tony Herring, Don Bennett, and Rayford Bennett Jr., all of Clinton, NC. He also leaves behind his Aunts, Rev. Sandra Price (Darryl), and Darlene Pope of Clinton Nc, and Blonnie Brown Rochester of New York, along with a host of other family and friends, including his special friends Alex and Juanita Brewington, Vincent Faison, and Randy Johnson.
