From a young age, Bernard had an unbreakable spirit, inspiring determination, and a compassionate heart that made him a light to everyone around him. Growing up in Clinton, he was known for his remarkable sense of humor, laughter, and the joy he brought to every room he entered. Bernard was a proud graduate of the Clinton High School Class of 1975. Upon graduation, he immediately entered the workforce, where he remained dedicated and hardworking throughout his life. His commitment, work ethic, and love for laughter left an indelible mark on those he worked with.
Outside of his career, Bernard was deeply involved in his community, and he came up in St. Paul church, where he dedicated much of his time to uplifting others. His love for helping people and his desire to see them succeed were evident in everything he said and did. Friends and family often recall his contagious laughter, gentle wisdom, and the countless ways he showed up for others in their times of need. Bernard had a remarkable sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to share a laugh or solicit a smile. His vibrant personality earned him features in his nephews' music videos. Lyrically spoken, “From the start... your biological instincts are not strong enough to elaborate on the situation; therefore, you do not understand.” Moments like these brought laughter to many.
Above all, Bernard cherished his family. He was a devoted father to Antonio Thompson and a loving grandfather to Tyniq Thompson and Tyvon Thompson, all of Turkey, North Carolina. He shared an unbreakable bond with his siblings: three brothers, James Ray Register (Peggy) of Clinton, NC, Winfred Odell Register (Brenda) of Turkey, NC, and Dennis Register of Dudley, NC; two sisters, Doris Ann Tillery (Willie) of Magnolia, NC, and Debbie Register of the home in Clinton, NC; one aunt Ruth Beamon of Manhattan, NY and a very special friend, Tonya Jackson of Clinton, NC. His family meant everything to him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and living life to the fullest lives on in them. Bernard leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, family, and friends. His passing leaves a void in our hearts, yet we are comforted knowing his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
