On the morning of Friday March 22, 2024, God closed the book on the life of Wilma Fay Handon.

Wilma Fay was born November 17, 1948 in Sampson County NC to the late Elmer and Clara Peterson becoming one of ten children. She often spoke of attending and graduating from Armstrong High School and Beaux Institute of Cosmetology. Wilma Fay married her life partner Eugene Handon November 17, 1974. The couple resided in Lumber Bridge NC.

Wilma Fay is preceded in death by their son Roger Handon. While living in Hoke County, Wilma Fay enjoyed helping others and became close friends with many. Her church family of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church was so dear to her heart. In July 2023, Wilma Fay moved back to Sampson County due to her failing health and resided with her daughter and family and attended her home church of China Grove on the Second and Forth Sundays. On the First and Third Sundays Mingle Hill DOC adopted Wilma Fay and embraced her with respect and love.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 30th 2024 at 12:00 p.m at Mingle Hill Disciples Church located at 100 Zoar Church Rd., Salemburg, North Carolina. Rev. Marvin McLean, Eulogist and Min. Shameka Moore, Presiding. Burial will follow in Roseboro-SnowHill Cemetery, located off Highway 24 on Snow Hill Church Road in Roseboro, NC.

Walkthrough will be held from 2:00-7:00 pm, with family present from 6:00-7:00 pm, on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC. The family will also receive friends and loved ones other times at the home of her daughter, 510 Boone St., Roseboro, NC.

Wilma Fay is also preceded in death by her siblings: baby Larry, baby Dwight, Chester, Gene, Diane, Leon, Jerry and Dwanda.

Left to cherish the memory of Wilma Fay: Husband; Eugene Handon, daughter; Tralia Faircloth (Johnnie), five grandchildren; Jamal McBryde, Trinell McBryde, Raquez Handon, Jadlyn Faircloth and Alyssa Faircloth; one brother Mickey Peterson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
