Fayetteville- US Army Retired Captain Stancil (Doug) Hunt, 69 of 2020 Merrimac Drive, Fayetteville, NC formerly of Clinton, died Monday May 30, 2011 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC. A funeral service will be held Friday June 3rd, 2011 7:00 pm at Manna Church on Cliffdale Rd. Fayetteville, NC with the Rev. Jeff Toomer officiating. Burial will follow in Farmersville, TX outside of Dallas, TX. Doug was born November 12, 1941 in El Paso, TX to the late Stancil Brown and Doveta Young Hunt. During the Vietnam era, Doug was apart of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Doug's assignments and major command was at 18th Corp Headquarters at Fort Bragg, NC where he received the following awards: Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal Third Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, and the Good Conduct Medal 3rd Award. Doug was also an active member of the Manna Church, a former member of the Clinton-Sampson Rescue Squad, retired from the Sampson County School System. He was also serving as a part-time teacher for the Cumberland County School System. Doug was preceded in death by his first wife: Anita Carol Sisco Hunt, and One sister Evelyn Harris. Doug leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife Sharon MaGee Hunt of the home, Three Sons : Jason Hunt of Wilmington, NC, David (Melissa) Hunt of Winston-Salem, NC, Joel(Ashley) Harvey of Clinton,NC. Two Daughters: Hillary (Chad) Crawford of Simpsonville, SC, Rebecca (Preston) Pittman of Clinton, NC. Seven (7) Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A public visitation will be held 7:00pm-9:00pm on Thursday June 2, 2011 at Hope Valley Funeral Service located at 1275 Hobbton Highway Clinton, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Manna Church. The family has entrusted Hope Valley Funeral Service & Cremations.
