Obituary

Romie T. Swinson 84 passed away on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Southwood Nursing Center.

Evelina "Romie T" Swinson was born in Sampson County on December 20, 1935 to the late Booker T. and Ardelia Bookurn. Romie T attended Sampson County Schools and was united in holy matrimony to the late Paul Anthony Swinson in March of 1952. In her early years Romie worked at Sampson Regional and other local companies until transitioning into a stay at home wife and mother. Romie lived in Dogwood Circle forty- seven years, she was well known in the neighborhood cooking for others and speaking to everyone as they passed by. Some of her other hobbies included playing bingo, solving crossword puzzles, and completing weekly sudoku puzzles in the newspaper. Romie was also a hat collector, her outfit wasn't complete without one, preferably a fedora.

Romie was a warm hearted, spiritual, and virtuous woman that never met a stranger. She was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Romie cared for others throughout the community, her infectious smile and heart touched generation after generation. She was referred to as the community mother and grandmother.

Home Going Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Snowhill Missionary Baptist Church, 531 Marion-Amos Rd, Roseboro NC by Dr. Sedrick E. Bryant officating,  burial will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery in Clinton.

Romie leaves her treasured memories to her forever soulmate: Jesse Jennings Jr. ; one sister: Mary Bookurn; one brother: Booker T. Bookurn Jr. ; seven sons: Jerome (Yuvonne) Swinson, Terry (Rose) Swinson, David (Kim) Swinson, Wendell Swinson, Paul Swinson, Malcolm Sr Swinson, and Larry Swinson; two daughters: Mary (Oscar) Boykin and Patricia Swinson; bonus children: Tommy Beatty, Stanley Henry, and Paul Eason; eighteen grandchildren: Boo, Barbara, JT, Levy, Alex, Nicole, Kristie, Michael Ray, Myra, Samantha, Erika, Kevin, Tanisha, Jawan, Malcom Jr, Ashley, Brianna, Dommanique, Kimberly, and Katie; nineteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; a special family friend Rob Base King; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by one son Paul June Swinson; one sister Veasther Smith; and three other "Dogwood Golden Girls" Bessie, Edna Earl, and Melt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm with family present from 5;00 pm – 7:00 pm at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Service & Cremation,, 1246 Hobbton Hwy. Clinton.
