On Saturday February 26, 2022, God saw Polly Elizabeth Matthews eyes were getting weary. He sent his heavenly angels to Southwood Nursing Center of Clinton to bring her home. Polly was born on August 9, 1944 to the late Roscoe and Alberta Hayes Matthews of Garland, NC.

Polly attended Sampson County Schools, where she graduated from Clear Run High School. She joined Hayes Chapel MB Church at an early age. She worked at Swift Poultry Plant (Con-Agra) where she retired. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: James Allen, Roscoe Jr., and Randolph Matthews, and two sisters: Mary Beard and Shirley Robinson.

Home Going Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Hayes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church located at 2580 Hayes Chapel Rd, Rose Hill, NC 28458. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A Walk Thru will be from 2:00-6:00 pm, family present from 5:00-6:00 pm, on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy. Clinton, NC 28328.

Left to cherish her memories are a special nephew who she raised as her own, Alvin Lee Matthews of the home; one sister, Edna Rela Matthews Nowling (Charles); one sister-in-law, Ruby Merritt Matthews; and special friend Alonzo Baggett of Mary Gran Nursing Center of Clinton, NC. Polly also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
