Margy Morris Abernathy, 91 went to her forever home in the early hours of Saturday May 28th 2022, 1 month to the day before her 92nd Birthday. Margy was born on June 28th 1930 to Walter & Irene Huntington Morris. Margy is survived by her children Karen Owens of Oak Island, Drew Abernathy of Wilmington & Richard Abernathy of Texas. She also is survived by her 3 Granddaughters whom she adored more than anything in this world Alyson Abernathy (Robert), Courtney Cox (Jason) & Brittni McDougald (Patrick). She was blessed with 2 Great Grandchildren Tyler Rosak & Madelynn McDougald of whom she loved more than she could describe. Margy also is survived by a sister Sally Richards, a brother Larry Morris (Joanna) & a sister-in-law Carole Karn. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband David Martin Abernathy Jr, 2 Brother-in-law's Ralph Karn & Dave Richards, Son-in-law John C. Owens & Grandson Ryan C Owens. Margy was a wonderful Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, GMA, Great GMA & Friend. A National Honor Society Member & Honor Roll Recipient. She was a Graduate of Franklin High School in Franklin, PA class of 1948. She got her nursing degree in 1953 in Youngstown, Ohio & later in life became a retired nurse. She was a member of Saint Andrew's On The Sound Episcopal Church of Wilmington, The Order of the Eastern Star, Arab ChooChoo & a Lady of the Shrine. Margy loved to play Bridge & Canasta & met a ton of friends doing so. She loved to work in the Garden & Cook. Funeral services will be held at Saint Andrew's On The Sound Episcopal Church of Wilmington 101 Airlie Rd Wilmington, NC 28403 June 18th 2022 at 2:00pm. In Lieu of Flowers we ask that donations be made to Shriners Children's Hospital 950 W. Faris Rd Greenville, SC 29605.
As Margy's grand-daughter I would like to thank all of Gmas Family & Friends including all of the staff at Lower Cape Fear Life Care for all their love and support for not only my grandmother but for myself & our family. I was blessed with the best Gma in the world as well her friends that have become my extended grandparents. - Brittni
