On Wednesday January 24, 2018, Lynn Horace Gardner, Sr. quietly transitioned from this life to eternal rest at Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, New York.

Lynn was born February 2, 1933, in Clinton, North Carolina, to the late Olivia Matthews-Gardner and was the youngest born to the family. He was raised in a loving home with his four siblings Madeline, Janie, Thomas, and Thelma. He was a product of the Sampson, North Carolina public school system where he received his primary and secondary education. At a young age, Lynn was adventurous which led to his decision to move to The Greater Washington, D.C. area. He was quickly employed by The Gardner Contracting Co. as a Motor Pool Inventory Clerk responsible for making frequent U.S. Pentagon visits and Security Clearances which brought him fond memories. Having already met the love of his life, Mary Alice Burnett, during his time in school, he returned to request her hand in marriage. They were married on August 22, 1953, and returned to Washington, D.C. where their union was blessed with Ava & Lynn Jr.

Again deciding to relocate the family, they moved to Westchester, NY where they were blessed once again with the birth of James Martin. He was working as a County of Westchester employee when he was approached with an offer to join the Archdiocese of New York where he served as the Head of Maintenance for The Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Irvington, New York for 50 years until his retirement in 1998.

Lynn joined Grace Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend W. Franklyn Richardson; he was a faithful member, serving in the Men's Ministry, who loved his pastor and his church. Lynn was a handyman (super fixer), who enjoyed gardening, loved Cadillac cars, and watching Jimmy Swaggart.

Lynn is predeceased by his loving mother, Olivia Matthew-Gardner, devoted wife, Mary Alice Gardner, sisters, Madeline Royal and Thelma Herring, brother, Thomas Gardner. He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved children: Ava Riley (Alfred) of Hyde Park, NY, Lynn Gardner Jr. (Wenda) of Hyde Park, NY, and James Gardner (Marie) of Knightdale, NC, sister: Janie DeBerry of Roanoke Rapids, NC, grandchildren: Anthony, Ife, Alfred, Jazmin, Corey, Cortland, Brittany, LaToya, and James, great-grandchildren: Nyomi, Aubrie, Tilaya, Canarsie, Bricyn, Kareem, Shea, and Ray, niece: Bonnie Herring, nephews: June Herring, Barry Herring, Chistopher Herring, and Dwight Herring, brother-in-laws: Reverend Willie William Howard Bryant and James Burnett, sister-in-laws: Sallie Mae Bryant and Tina Burnett, cousin: Fred Wilson, best friends: Barbara and Eddie Mattison, along with a host of relatives, friends, and his Grace Baptist Church family.

A Home Going Service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Jude's United Holiness Church, 1881 H B Lewis Rd, with Rev. Willie Bryant officiating, burial will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery.

A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at St. Jude United Holiness Church.
