Oh, Sweet Baby Ruth, there’s not a day that goes by that we will not think of you. You did your part in every way possible, and we are eternally grateful to have been a part of your journey.

A Visitation will be held 1:00-6:00 pm, with family present 5:00-6:00 pm, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328. 

Entombment will take place at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Grandview Memorial Park, 2809 US-421, Clinton, NC 28328.

Lue Bertha was born in the city of Birmingham, Alabama on December 26, 1936, to Maeola Roberson and Willie James Lawson. She has 2 sisters which she called both Sis. Lue Bertha was the mother of Linda Banks, Terry Henry, Alfred Arness (Michelle) Herring, Angela Butler, and Larry Herring. She raised her children with love and devotion in Clinton, NC with her late husband Alfred Junior Herring.

She was an amazing and loving grandmother to Eric, Marie, Sue, Elijah, Anthony, Krystle, Meneka, Jamal (April), Steve, Shawn, and Nick She continued to spread her motherly love and devotion to her great-grandchildren Dj, Milo, Aj, Mj, and many others.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred Junior Herring, daughter Carol Harris, 4 brothers who were known as Dool, Billy, Lane, and Monk, 1 niece Theresa.

Now if you really knew Mrs. Lue, you knew she was a soldier until the very end. She worked many years at Springdale Fashions and later worked many more years within the Piggly Wiggly deli. She was a hard-working woman who took care of her family, and we could never pay her back for all her sacrifices and dedication.

So many memories that flood through our minds of good times and laughs. Ma’ your Punkin is so happy that she got the chance to bake a version of your famous sweet potato pie. And to top of it off it was Lue Bertha approved, because we all knew yours were the best. You were an awesome cook, but of course you would remind us of that with every dish.

Momma, you have got your wings. Take your rest baby, we will be just fine. You get to be with Jun and all your other loved ones and friends who you held dear to your heart. We will always love you, but God loved you so much more.
