Lloyd Junior Ward peacefully passed away at his residence on 907 Phillip Street South, Wilson, North Carolina, on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, after a long illness. He was surrounded by his family during his final moments. Lloyd was born on September 17th, 1948, in Rose Hill, North Carolina, to his late parents, Lloyd Frederick Ward and Claretta Washington Ward Chavious. At a young age, Lloyd met and married Rosie Newkirk, and together they had three children. However, Lloyd felt the desire to leave North Carolina and explore the bustling city of New York, where he resided for over 20 years. Eventually, he returned to his hometown in the Delway community, where he met and married Marilyn Saunders Ward, the love of his life for 30 years. Together, they raised six children. Lloyd held various jobs throughout his life, both in North Carolina and New York. He particularly enjoyed working as a delivery person for United Cerebral Palsy in New York and as a beloved janitor for Brooks Brothers in Clinton, North Carolina, where he retired in 2014. Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Frederick Ward and Claretta Chavious, as well as his two brothers, Carl Ward and Hugh Chavious, two sisters, Gretha Ward and Joanne Butler, and one son  Antoine Saunders. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ward, who he cherished dearly, three daughters: Katrina Humphrey of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Sharnia Saunders and Shatisha Rhodes, both of Wilson, North Carolina, and two sons, Durand Ward and Gerald Ward, both of Mt Olive, North Carolina.  He is survived by his brother, Arthur Chavis, of Delway, North Carolina, and four sisters: Wilda Maynor, Reverend Sandra Spell, Antoinette Moore, and Dora Ray, all of Delway, North Carolina. Lloyd is also survived by eight grandsons: Durand, Deanel, Travis, Antoine, Anthony, Nyzir, Kaiden, and Kameron, as well as six granddaughters: Rochelle, Jaqaya, Janaya, Shanquandra, Yasheonna, and Nyionna. Additionally, he is survived by his uncle, Willie M Washington, of Fort Pierce, Florida, two brothers-in-law: Lewis Saunders (Manuela) of Berlin, Germany, and Basil Harvey of Wilson, North Carolina, and three sisters-in-law: Debra Hunt and Margie Harvey of Brooklyn, New York and Teresa Saunders of Harrels, North Carolina. Lloyd also had a special buddy, cousin, and friend Jerome Melvin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Hayes Chapel Church, 2580 Hayes Chapel RD, Rose Hill, NC 28458. Burial will follow in Ward-Robinson Cemetery,Bill Town Rd, Rose Hill, NC

Visitation held 1:00-7:00 pm, with family present 6:00-7:00 pm, on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy., Clinton, NC 28328.
