Obituary

Waynesville, Linwood Ernest Carter of Waynesville, NC passed away on Saturday July 29, 2017 in Clinton, NC. Born to Ernest and Alene Johnson Carter. Linwood was a graduate of UNCW and a brother of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. By profession he was a manufacturing engineer. The majority of his career was spent at the Outboard Marine Corporation in Burnsville, NC. Linwood was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Kolin Robbins. Left to cherish his memory, quick wit, caring generosity and unconditional love are his wife Katherine McGimsey of Waynesville, a daughter Amanda Carter of Clinton, a stepson Joe (Audrey) McGimsey, two grandchildren Melah and Asa. In addition he is survived by a sister Elizabeth (Donny) Meyers of Turkey, NC. Linwood who received a heart transplant on Christmas Day, 2006 always wanted to encourage everyone to consider organ donation. He had 10 1/2 years with his loved ones due to the generous family who decided to give the gift of life. A special thank you goes to the doctors and staff of the Cardiology/Transplant team at UNCH Memorial Hospital and to the ambulance crew in Clinton who worked tirelessly to save Linwood. Anyone wishing to make a tribute in Linwood's name may make a donation to the Sampson County Emergency Management Center, 107 Underwood Street, Clinton, NC 28328 or to Grace United Methodist Church, 800 Smith St., Clinton, NC 28328. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
