Lacy B. Massey, 70, of Benson, N.C., went to his heavenly home on Thursday, February 29, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late David Henry and Laura Suitt Massey, he was born on January 4, 1954, in Wake County. David and Laura had 7 children total, 2 girls and 5 boys. Lacy and his twin brother, Tracy, were born last and were always referred to as the "babies" of the family. His parents didn't give them a middle name, only an A and B for the order of their birth. Lacy met the love of his life, Shirley Pope Massey, and married her on May 17, 1986. They have enjoyed spending almost 38 years together with their loving family. Lacy and Shirley owned "Crimson Lights Catering" of Dunn. One of Lacy and Shirley's gifts was and is "hospitality," and they showed that through the many meals and gatherings they catered and decorated through the years. Lacy's specialty was carving produce, and he could design the most beautiful fruit displays for events. Lacy was always by Shirley's side cooking and creating amazing food and events together, even though he worked another full-time job. Lacy began his working career when he was 18 years old, alongside his twin brother, Tracy, at Winn-Dixie Stores. Lacy worked various positions, proudly becoming store manager in 1984. After his career with Winn-Dixie, he continued to work for Food Brokerage Companies up until he became sick. His final job was with Piggly-Wiggly. Lacy missed going to work and interacting with store employees and the public so much. Lacy was also a member of the Dunn Lions Club where he served a term as President. Lacy loved watching sports, particularly his favorite team, the Carolina Tarheels. He enjoyed watching "wrastling", as he called it, and his favorite wrestler was Ric Flair. Lacy loved to say "Wooooo!", Ric Flair's famous yell. He also loved Nascar and had a man cave filled with collectibles he had gathered throughout his life. Lacy had a green thumb. He loved tending to his summer produce garden, while also taking care of his beautiful plants and flowers. His yards were always manicured to excellence. Lacy was an excellent cook, and he enjoyed being the chef for his family and friends. When you came to Shirley and Lacy's, you never went away hungry, and Lacy fixed the best BBQ Chicken anywhere. Lacy never met a stranger. He was always happy, smiling, and polite. He loved meeting and talking to anyone and everyone. He especially loved talking about sports and politics. He was never short of a "Dad Joke" either. One of the best things about Lacy was that he was a family man, and he loved his family more than anything on this earth. Lacy also loved God and he never lost his faith throughout his illness journey. Lacy was such a good man, and this obituary seems too short to write about his life and all that he meant to so many. But his family is thankful to God that Lacy is no longer suffering on this earth, and he is in heaven with Jesus today. He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife, Shirley Pope Massey, and their children-Janice Pope McLamb (daughter) and husband, Wayne, Jeffrey Pope (son) and wife, Lorrie, Jacona Pope Hester (daughter) and husband, Paul, Kimberly Massey Russell (daughter) and husband,

Chris, grandchildren-Rex Pope (grandson), Adam Hester (grandson) and wife, Liz, Ashton Hester Burnette (granddaughter) and husband, Adam, Alex Hester (grandson) and River Russell (granddaughter) and Eli, Sarah and Leah Hester (great grandchildren), Tracy Massey (brother) and wife, Rose, Johnny Massey (brother) and wife, Carleen, and Nancy Stuart (sister) and husband, Allen, and Betsy Massey (sister-in-law).

Lacy was preceded to heaven by David and Laura Massey (parents), Peggy Moore (sister), Charles Massey (brother) and Joe Massey (brother) and his sweet little dog, Misty whom he loved so much.

We invite our family and friends to a "Celebration of Life" that will be held  at 3:00 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Benson PH Church, 8991 NC Hwy 27, Benson, N.C. by Pastor Chris Beasley officiating,

Burial will follow the service at Erwin Memorial Park, S. 18th Street in Erwin, N.C.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Benson PH Church, 8991 NC Hwy 27, Benson, N.C In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lacy B. Massey's honor to: Benson PH Church, P.O. Box 177, Benson N.C. 27504.
