Joseph Files, 66, passed away Tuesday July 21, 2026 at Mary Gran Nursing Home.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated. At this time no funeral or memorial services have been scheduled. Hope Valley Hawkins will announce details at a later date.

Joseph was born in Cumberland County on July 12, 1960 to the late Bruce and Wilma Files. He was a hardworking house painter, who took pride in his craft and the work of his hands. In his spare time, he enjoyed listening to music, watching classic westerns, and spending time with those he loved the most. He was known for his appreciation of the simple things in life, especially an ice-cold Mountian Dew and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, which always brought a smile to his face. Above all else, he cherished his family, and the love he had for them was evident in everything he did. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his hardworking spirit, and the many memories he created with those fortunate enough to know and love him. 

He was truly the jack of all trades, gifted with the ability to do just about anything he set his mind to. Whether he was painting a house, repairing a car, replacing a well pump, baking a delicous cake, grilling the best steaks or leaving a home cleaner than anyone else could, he did every task with care, skill, and pride. His willingness to lend a helping hand and his many talents touched the lives of countless family members and friends. He will be remembered not only for what he could do, but for the generous heart with which he did it.

Along with his loving parents, Joseph is preceded in death by Bruce W. Files Jr. and Judy A. Files.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Anita Files of Salembug; his children: Justin Files of Sampson County, Hunner Grace Files of Fayetteville, Stephanie Files of New York, and step son: Joseph Manor of St. Pauls; siblings: Linda Adelstein of Dallas and Mary Harrell (Keith) of Mt. Olive; grandchildren: Rosalie Brook, John Andreson, Skyler Manor, Nicholas Joe Manor, and Ryey Manor; special friends: Lacy Sikes and Cathy Sikes of Fayetteville.
