Clinton Deacon Johnnie Lee Cox, 70, of 1003 Auctioneer Road, died Sunday, January 31,2010, at his home. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm Friday, February 5, 2010, at Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church on Keener Road, Clinton with the Pastor Garland Mayes officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park on Hwy 24 West Clinton. Deacon Cox was born in Sampson County, North Carolina on March 20, 1940 to the late Deacon Junious Cox and Martha Ella Fryar Cox. Deacon Cox was raised in Sampson County and was a graduate of Hargrove High School and attended Sampson Community College. He was member of Goshen Disciple Church of Christ. In 1966, Mr. Cox was sworn in as a Deacon at Goshen Disciple Church of Christ. He later joined Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Men's Chorus and Pastoral Aide Committee. Proceeded in death by brother, Charlie Cox and sister, Maggie Kornegay (Horice). Survivors: Wife - Lonnie Ashford Cox of the Home Daughter- Sheila Bryant McMillan (Early) of East Orange, New Jersey Sons - Stevie L. Cox of Chadbourn, North Carolina Sammie D. Cox of the Home Sisters - Cleo Cox of Faison, North Carolina Lula Boykin (Marvin, Sr.) of Clinton Brother - Ashley Cox (Stephanie) of Goldsboro, North Carolina 2 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Hope Valley Funeral Service Chapel and other times at 1003 Auctioneer Road. Donation can be given to the Sunday School at Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church, 7282 Keener Road Clinton NC 28328.
