Obituary

Garland,

Joanne Johnson 65 7054 Old Fayetteville Road passed away on Monday, March 1, 2020 at home.

A Time to Be Born:

Joanne Johnson, daughter of the late Mr. Warren G. Johnson and the late Mrs. Hildra Smith Johnson was born on September 02, 1955 in Orange County, North Carolina. She came from a family of eight siblings, two brothers and six sisters.

A Time to build up:

Joanne received her education in the Bladen County Public School System. She attended Bladen Central High School, Elizabethtown, NC and graduated in the class of 1973 and received her high school diploma from Tar Heel High School, Tar Heel, North Carolina. Growing up on the farm, Joanne wasn't afraid of work and labored faithfully helping her parents with daily tasks. But soon after graduation, it was time to move on to the north and get away from the farm work.

She relocated to Laurel, Delaware and later moved to Newark, Delaware where she became employed with the E.I. DuPont de Nemours Company (Glasgow Plant) for the next several years. Having a passion for people, Joanne relocated to Seaford, Delaware and took classes and received her CNA license so that she would be certified in helping those in need.

A TIME TO LOVE:

She returned home to Garland, North Carolina in the year 2010 to provide healthcare services to her very sick father until his death four years later. Joanne was persistent in letting her siblings know that Monday through Friday evening was her schedule for this health care, but the weekend was her time off, although she still may be in the house.

Knowing the importance of having Christ in her life, Joanne accepted JESUS Christ, was baptized and joined Mt. Elam Baptist Church Garland, North Carolina. One of her favorite songs was, "Don't Let the Devil Ride."

A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Warren-Johnson Cemetery in Garland with Rev. Scott Johnson officiating, burial will follow.

A TIME TO TRANSCEND

Joanne battled with cancer for the past two years. She was strong and kept a positive view of her sickness and situation. She texted many family members and other each morning to say "good morning" and sometime nothing else. Her last week on this earth, it was noticed that her morning texts had decreased to only two for the week. Her time to leave her earthly home was approaching.

One sister, Mrs. Helen R. Hitchens preceded her in death. Joanne made her transition early Monday morning, March 01, 2021 at her home in Garland, North Carolina surrounded by her sisters.

Her memory and love will forever be engraved in the heart of her son, Hilton Warren Acquah of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, Ledell Johnson (Helen) of Garland NC, and Howard Johnson of Raleigh, NC;  four sisters, Leola J. Draughon of Autryville, NC, Mary Johnson of Brandon, Florida, Lula J. Jones of Fayetteville, NC, and Rena J. Jessup (H.L.) of Hope Mills, NC;  an aunt, Mrs. Almare McNeil of Roseboro, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm with family present from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton hwy. Clinton.
