Rocky Mount

Herbert Arthur Faulkner 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Autumn Care of Nash Assisted Living in Nashville, NC.

Herbert was born of July 5, 1929 in Franklin County to the late Henietta and Henry Faulkner. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. In 1952 he married Glen Gene Phelps and they were blessed with four children. Arthur retired from the US Postal Service in the 80's and came home and learned the trade of woodworking. He built gorgeous and complex furniture for family, friends, neighbors and others. For many years he and his family were members of Grove Park Baptist Church. Most every weekend of his children's lives were spent on the NC coast where we shared with them his love of surf fishing. He continued this tradition until his little feet could no longer tugg him through the sands to cast out his line into the waters.

Arthur also had another gift from God, which was a "Green Thumb". You could find him daily working in his well manacured lawn or his garden where he grew most of their foods to be stored. He had a giving heart and loved sharing the gift of his veggies and fruits with friends and family.

Glen Gene predeceased Arthur in 2019. Arthur developed Dementia Sundowners and had been living with his daughter and son-in-law in Rocky Mount for the past 3 years.

No services are planned at this time. Mr. Faulkner and his wife requested there be a small private gathering on the coast to celebrate their lives together. The Fall season seems to be the best time to carry out this celebration of their time together.

Left to cherish the memory of Arthur are his Children: Herbert (Cindy) Faulkner of Clinton, James Faulkner of Clinton, Susan F. (Larry) Williamson of Rocky Mount, and Jane Faulkner of Salisbury, NC; Grandchildren: Jeremy Faulkner, Megan Allen, Colin Faulkner, Jennifer Sinclair, Justin Faulkner, Josh Harrell, Justin Harrell, Chad Williamson, Melisa Williamson, Brittany Reardon, Katelyn Wilhelm, Olivia Reardon, and Taylor Royce; 19 Great Grandchildren; and one Great Great Grandson; sister: Ernestine Brewer of Goldsboro; half brothers & sisters: Ida Cowan and her husband of Raleigh, Joyce Daughtry of Clinton, Louise Faulkner Allen (deceased), Margaret (Maggie) Holder, Richard and Wanda Faulkner of Chapel Hill, William and Belinda Faulkner of Erwin; and several nieces and nephews who all had a special place in his heart.

T he family wishes to thank everyone for calls, flowers, and support they have received. Special thanks to Autumn Care Assisted Living in Nashville, NC for the loving care and devotion shown to our father during his 30 day stay. The family will forever be grateful.
