Durham Ms Carrie (Bookie) Bell Melvin 87 formally of Roseboro died Saturday May 7, 2011 at Pettigrew Healthcare Center in Durham. Ms.Carrie was born in 1923 to the late Ervin and Dora Campbell Powell, raised in Fayetteville NC before moving to Sampson County, she worked at Garland Shirt Company in Garland as a cutter. She was preceded in death sons, George Smith Jr., James Willie, sisters, Rose Maria Melvin, Clara Stokes, Shirley Powell and Bernice Baker, brother, Ervin Powell. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday May 13,2011 at the Holly Tabernacle United Holy Church 612 Hall Road Roseboro by Pastor Eddie Washington Officiating Burial will follow in the Roseboro Cemetery at Snow Hill, Public viewing will be one hour prior to the service.
