Obituary

On January 7, 2023 our Heavenly Father called home Carl Franklin West. Carl heard God's voice and he answered.

Carl F. West was born February 1, 1947 to the late Willie and Bertha West. He received his education in Sampson County at Charles E. Perry High School. Soon after he graduated from school he joined the Marine Corp. and served 4 years. Not long after getting out of the Marines, Carl moved to New York and there he met the love of his life, Henrietta Thomas. Soon after meeting each other they were married and moved to Roseboro, NC and made it their home.

Carl had many jobs after moving back home. He worked at Lundy's Packing Company as a security guard until they changed company. He then went on to work at Freeman Nursery, where everybody said Carl had a green thumb for flowers. He also worked for the town of Roseboro and the ABC Package Store until his health declined.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Willie West; his mother, Bertha West; his sister, Betty Crosby and his brother, Billy West.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Mingle Hill Disciples Church located at 100 Zoar Church Rd., Salemburg, NC 28385. Bishop Eddie Parker, officiating. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, 3620 Roseboro Hwy, Clinton, NC 28328.

Visitation will be 2:00-6:00 pm, family present from 6:00-7:00 pm, on Wednesday , January 11, 2023 at Hope Valley Hawkins Funeral Chapel, 1246 Hobbton Hwy. Clinton, NC 28328.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 52 years, Henrietta West; one daughter Rene West (Lenzy); two grandsons, Demetrius D. West (Enola) and Corey V. West, all of Roseboro, NC; 3 great-grandchildren, Demetrius West Jr., Emory West, and Naomi West. He also leaves one sister, Dorothy Finn of Woodbridge, VA; 3 sister-in-laws, Josephine Talley of New York, Margaretta Cantey and Cathrine Hamid, both of South Carolina; 2 brother-in-laws, Euline Thomas of South Carolina and Richard Lee Thomas of New York. He had 2 special nieces, Gloria Batt of New York and Marylin Montgomery of South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and more.
