Raymond Earl Murphrey died Monday, August 24, 2015 at his home in Clinton. Born in Greene County, he was the son of Raymond Carraway Murphrey and Elsie Elizabeth Hardy Murphrey.
A graduate of N.C. State University, Raymond served ten years as a US Army officer. His duties included company commander, helicopter pilot, fixed-wing pilot and pilot of Mohawk Turboprop Jets. Following his military career he was employed by Lundy Packing Company of Clinton in the industrial engineering department. He retired from Lundy's after thirty years service.
Raymond is survived by his wife Delores Blanton Murphrey and three children: his son Cary Murphrey, wife Colleen Moore Murphrey of Cary, N.C. and their two daughters
Hayleigh and Mariah; his daughter Chris Murphrey Tyler and husband Tony Tyler of Poquoson, Virginia and their sons Thomas, Daniel, and Adam; and by his son Michael Murphrey of Snow Hill, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church, Clinton, N.C.
